PCOS or the polycystic ovary syndrome is a common condition linked with hormonal imbalance in the women belonging to the reproductive age. This is characterized by high androgen levels- male hormones- in the body. High blood sugar level i.e. hyperinsulinemia with insulin resistance is considered as a major link in the generations of symptoms of polycystic ovary syndrome like hyperandrogenism (the excessive secretion of the androgen- make sex hormone) and an ovulatory infertility. Studies have shown that some supplements can help in easing the PCOS symptoms, especially in the women who have low levels of the particular nutrients. For instance, the deficiency of vitamin D is linked with some of the negative side effects of PCSO with insulin resistance, obesity and reduced ovulation. Hence, it is generally recommended that the women with PCOS who have deficiency of vitamin D should take its supplements. Nonetheless, it has not been proven that these supplements can reduce the negative side effects. Hence, more research is required.

This is a low calorie food which can be used for the basis of delectable, light salads. However, it doesn’t always have to be the iceberg lettuce. The romaine lettuce gives a multitude of health benefits, especially for the women suffering from PCOS. Alongside being very low in calories, it is supercharged with many essential nutrients, which include chromium.

This is one set of healthy foods which needs to be included in the diet recipes of PCOS. Even though most of the women suffering from it are reluctant in including fruits in their diet as the fructose content which causes the sudden spike in the levels of blood sugar and as a result insulin levels, fruits are really very rich in vitamins, phytonutrients, fibers and minerals and hence should not be completely avoided.
