8 Simple Home Remedies For The Treatment Of Mouth Ulcers

Despite being relatively harmless, mouth ulcers can be extremely discomforting and somewhat painful and can hinder you from eating or speaking in a proper manner. These small sores o lesions that appear generally appear on the inner sides of the cheeks and lips or even the moth floor are caused due to a variety of reasons. Thankfully, they are not that difficult to treat using some really simple home remedies the top 8 of which are listed as follows.

Honey: The antibacterial properties of honey along with its ability to promote new tissue growth, makes it the perfect remedy for treating mouth ulcers. Just apply some raw honey on the ulcer and let it stay. The process should be repeated after every few hours to get fast results.

Apple Cider Vinegar: The acidic content of Apple cider vinegar proves effective in killing the bacteria causing the mouth ulcers and thus helping in healing it. Mix one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar with ½ cup of warm water and swish around a gulpful of this solution inside your mouth for a couple of minutes before rinsing with clean water. The process should be repeated twice everyday in the morning and evening until the ulcer is healed.

Toothpaste: Any good toothpaste possesses antimicrobial properties, which helps in clearing the ulcer that causes the ulcer in the first place. You just need to apply a small amount of paste on the ulcer, preferably with the help of a Q-tip. Leave it there for a few minutes, before thoroughly rinsing the mouth. The process should be repeated everyday till the whiteness of the ulcer is reduced.

Baking Soda: Baking soda is extremely effective in neutralizing the ulcer acids and its antibacterial action helps in maintaining oral hygiene. Mix one teaspoon of baking powder with one tablespoon of water to make a consistent paste. Apply this paste on the ulcers with the help of your fingers and leave it to dry for a few minutes. Then rinse the mouth with clean water and repeat the process thrice every day.

Clove Oil: Clove oil has abundant eugenol content which makes it suitable for treating a wide range of oral problems thanks to its antimicrobial action and healing properties. In order to treat mouth ulcers a small cotton swab dipped in clove oil should be applied directly to the ulcer and left there for the oil to be absorbed by the skin. The process should be repeated twice or thrice a day.

Turmeric: Turmeric is extremely well known for its antiseptic, anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory properties which make it a perfect choice to get quick relief from mouth ulcers. Mix two teaspoons of turmeric powder with one tablespoon of water to make a thick paste. Use your fingers to apply this paste on the ulcers and leave it on for a few minutes before rinsing the mouth with clean water. The process should be repeated everyday in the morning and evening till the ulcer is healed.

Saltwater: The antiseptic properties of salt help in healing the ulcers faster, while the water helps to flush out the mouth and sooth the soreness caused by ulcers. Add one table spoon of salt to a glass of lukewarm water and mix it well. Use this water to gargle thoroughly and when finished, rinse the mouth with plain water. Repeat the process a few times every day till the ulcers heal.

Aloe Vera: Aloe Vera is a natural antiseptic that helps in alleviating pain and promotes healing of the ulcers. It also has antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties effective for treating mouth ulcers effectively. Apply a generous amount of aloe vera juice directly on the ulcers and let it stay. Repeat the process several times a day to get faster results.
