Humans  not only have internal body organs like brain,heart etc. But they too have external body part ie. the skin. Skin is the largest part of human body consisting of seven layers ie. Epidermis(consisting of five sublayers), Dermis and Subcutaneous fat. It is a waterproof shield which protects the body from very high temperature,  damaging sunlight or Ultraviolet rays and even harmful chemicals.

The type of skin ranges from dry to oily. Skin performs the function of protection, sensation, heat regulations, excretion etc. Human skin are of different colors. The different types of skin conditions are signified by it’s color. Its function is to protect our body from infection.

Skin Diseases and their condition
Sometimes the skin itself becomes infected. Skin infections are caused by a wide variety of germs .Viruses, fungi, bacteria, parasites ,can all cause skin infection.Fungal skin infections occur when a fungus attacks a fingernail, a toenail or nail bed.

Bacterial skin infections occur when bacteria attack our skin. Сellulitis is a common skin infection caused by bacteria. The symptoms of skin infection can vary from mild to serious. Mild infections may be treatable with medicines and home remedies, whereas other infections may need medical attention. Human skin has hundreds of skin disorders which varies greatly in symptoms and severity. They can be temporary, permanent, painful, painless,internal, minor, chronic or life-threatening, genetic etc.

Common signs of skin conditions are as follows:

  • Itch
  • Swelling
  • Redness
  • Rash
  • Flaky, scaly skin
  • Blisters
  • Oozing
  • Bumps or growths
  • A rash, which might be painful or itchy.
  • Scaly or rough skin.
  • Peeling skin.
  • Open sores or lesions.
  • Dry, cracked skin.
  • Discolored patches of skin.

Symptoms of skin disorders

Most common symptoms of skin disorders include Inflammation of skin,  for instance, psoriasis and eczema. Red splotches on the skin is another common sign of contact dermatitis. Ringworm on scalp generally causes scaly and red bald spots. Ringworm on feet(athlete’s  foot) leads to peeling, cracking and blisters.

Lupus leads to rashes or sores seen on sun-exposed parts like the face, ears, neck, arms, and legs. Moles that are seen to grow bigger, itches, bleeds and changes color are infectious. Vitiligo is a skin disorder if left unattended further leads to patchy loss of skin color, premature whitening or graying of the hair on the scalp, eyelashes, eyebrows or beard loss of color in the tissues which line the inside of your mouth and nose (mucous membranes) loss of or transformation in color of the inner layer of the eyeball (retina).

Pimples causes Whiteheads (closed clogged pores), Blackheads (open clogged pores), Small red, tender bumps ,large, solid, painful lumps beneath the surface of the skin,painful, pus-filled lumps beneath the surface of the skin.

  • seborrheic dermatitis
  • psoriasis
  • vitiligo
  • impetigo
  • warts
  • skin cancer

Treatment for skin disorders
There are several options available for treating skin disorders which depends on the type of skin condition, its symptoms and the severity of these symptoms. Ointments, creams, sprays, gels, and other treatments applied directly to the skin are commonly recommended by the dermatologist. In some cases, oral or injectable medicines are prescribed, in cases of stubborn skin conditions like psoriasis or severe eczema  steroid ointments or creams are prescribed to reduce inflammation, topical coal tar products for relief from itching and light therapy is given to clear up rashes. For certain Skin cancer surgery may be essential.

Common skin condition treatments
Skin diseases can be treated using various remedies. Physician prescribed Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are one of them. Though usually people try home remedies it is advised to consult a professional skin specialist. Other treatments include Antivirals, Antifungals, Antihistamines,Corticosteroids, Light therapy and in advanced stages Surgery is opted.
