Try These Hydrating Drinks for Curing Dehydration

In the starting stage, you can surely correct the mild to moderate dehydration by home treatment measures. It is very essential to take some action so that you can prevent dehydration. When it is about sweaty workout, we all like having a water break reward as much as the new fitness fiend. However, as the heat starts to rise, it is even more important to focus on the intake of fluids throughout the day. Undoubtedly, water is the most important nutrient which our body system requires.

Signs of dehydration

In case you are suspecting that someone is dehydrated, you should seek immediate attention. Here are the signs of dehydration:

  • Loss in appetite
  • Fatigue
  • Flushed skin
  • Light- headedness
  • Heat intolerance
  • Dry cough
  • Dark- colored urine

Summer is all for enjoying the barbecuing, the outdoors, and sipping cold drinks- not for suffering in the toilet. However, whether you cannot go or cannot stop going, you likely have an issue in common: dehydration! More time in bathroom is not the only side –effect of it. Being dehydrated affects all the aspects of your life. At work, it can affect your life in the following ways:

  • You may have hard time in concentrating at work.
  • You may head to vending machine at 2 in the noon – when you are actually thirsty, not hungry.
  • Your legs may feel restless
  • When you stand up, you may feel lightheaded or dizzy

The best way of beating dehydration is to drink a lot even before you feel thirsty. In case you wait until after you are thirsty, you are already dehydrated.

Water

There’s no doubt that drinking water is the ideal most way of keeping yourself hydrated. It is the best hydrating drink especially if you have a regular intake of water and you are not sweating out or working out. Not only does the water contain any calories, it also helps in keeping the skin rejuvenated. It is very important for the health of your muscles as well.

Cucumber soup

Cucumber consists of 96.7% water content. This summer vegetable has the highest water content of any solid food. It is ideal in salads or as sliced. It can be served with some hummus. You can also increase the hydrating capacity of cucumber by blending it with non-fat yogurt, ice cubes and mint for making cucumber soup. Soup is hydrating anytime. However, you may not like anything hot during the summers. Chilled cucumber soup is rather very refreshing as well as delicious at any time of the year.

Home-made ORS

Instant restoration of the lost minerals and fluids is very essential when you are suffering from dehydration. An easy and simple way of achieving this is with home-made ORS (oral rehydration solution).

  1. Add 1.5 tsp of salt and 6 tsp of sugar in 4 cups of water.
  2. Stir thoroughly till they dissolve completely.
  3. Drink this solution many times in a day until you recover completely.

You can also purchase the ORS which are approved by the WHO.

A lot of people do not like drinking plain water, or just do not have the habit of drinking water. Nonetheless, much of the water that we intake on daily basis comes from food. You can ensure the proper hydration by drinking other fluids and eating foods which consist of high amount of water.

Fluids to avoid:

When you are dehydrated, avoid alcohol and caffeine. These drinks have dehydrating effects on the body. Beverages like caffeinated tea. Coffee and soda shouldn’t be taken when dehydrated. You should also avoid the fruit juices because the sugar can also have a dehydrating effect by increasing the urination.
